JOVRNALISM’s The Address Book won its first Anthem Award — a Silver — in the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Digital & Innovative Experiences Awareness Categories.

As part of the prize we were asked to submit an extremely short acceptance speech.

JOVRNALISM wins First Place in the Hearst Multimedia Team Digital News/Enterprise Story category

They are considered the Pulitzer Prizes for college journalism, JOVRNALISM was awarded first place for the Hearst Awards for the Reflections of the L.A. Uprising project.

The announcement stated that there were “69 entries from 42 schools submitted in the fourth multimedia competition of the academic year.”

First Place has been awarded to the team from the University of Southern California: Myrah Sarwar, Grace Yuan Gao, Halle Hazzard, Marta Hernani Fernandez, Rachel Kisela, Hannu Kivimaki, Charisma Madarang, Jesse Mechanic, Lajja Mistry, Jacqueline Pinedo, Sam Schwartz, Mallika Singh, Vaishnavi Vasudevan and Randy Vazquez.

In addition to the national recognition, the team “will receive a $3,000 scholarship for the winning multimedia piece.”

JOVRNALISM Webby Award Finalist for L.A. uprising project

JOVRNALISM returns as a finalist for the Webby Awards in the 2023 Advertising, Media & PR Student category.

The innovative, multimedia project documenting the 30th anniversary of the L.A. Riots/L.A. Uprising included oral histories, virtual museums and augmented reality portals into the past with photojournalists.

JOVRNALISM is a 2022 Online Journalism Awards finalist

Reflections of the L.A. Uprising project, the immersive project commemorating the 30th anniversary of the L.A. Riots/L.A. Uprising, was selected as a finalist for the Online Journalism Awards in the Student Journalism Award, Portfolio: Student Team category.

The OJAs, put on by the Online News Association, is one of the most prestigious recognitions in the journalism industry.
